What to Expect - Functional Mental Health
First Visit
At your first visit, your doctor will take a comprehensive look at all aspects of your human experience - mental, emotional, and physical. This will include a review of your medical and social history. We will also review your reasons for seeking care with us and your goals for working together. Our goal is to take a deep dive into who you are and discover not just your symptoms but their root cause.
This visit will be 1 hour and can take place virtually or in person. At the end of the visit, your doctor will make a plan for what lab work and genetic testing they would like to order.
Follow Up Appointments
During your first follow-up appointment, your doctor will review your labs, any other testing, and treatment options. This visit will be 45 minutes. Follow-up appointments can also be either virtual or in-person. This is determined between you and your doctor on an as needed basis.
Initially, follow-up appointments will be every 3-4 weeks. This helps you and your doctor ensure that the treatment plan is working for you or decide if any changes need to be made to the plan. Once you have reached a maintenance phase of care, time between visits can increase.
Diagnostics & Assessments
At Amenda Clinic, we consider ourselves to be diagnosis neutral. This means that we don’t think people can easily be fit into a neat diagnostic category. However, diagnoses are useful for insurance reimbursement and can also provide a framework to help you understand yourself a little better. It also may be helpful in finding resources like evidence-based treatments or community support. Thus, we do provide diagnostic assessments, and this may even be the reason you are here today.
Building a Support Plan
Your initial treatment plan will be reviewed at your first follow-up appointment. Your doctor will offer all treatment options they think will work best for you. This will often include both conventional and naturopathic approaches. The best part is that you then get to discuss the plan with your doctor and come up with a plan that works for you. Be sure to let your doctor know what kind of commitment you feel like you can reasonably make regarding time, money, and lifestyle changes.
